  • First UMC youth group launches shoe drive fundraiser to raise money for mission trips

    VAN WERT – First United Methodist Church is conducting a shoe drive fundraiser from Feb. 17 - May 1 to raise funds for national and international mission trips. First Church Youth will earn funds based on the total weight of the pairs of gently worn, used and new shoes collected, as Funds2Orgs will issue a check for the collected shoes. Those dollars will benefit their Mission Trips. Anyone can help by donating gently worn, used and new shoes at 113 W. Central St., Van Wert.

    VAN WERT – Van Wert High School English/Language Arts students recently participated in the Young Writers’ Survival Sagas: Mission Contamination Contest. The contest received more than 10,000 submissions and 68 VWHS students were chosen for publication in Mission Contamination – Ohio.

    COLUMBUS — The Ohio Department of Health (ODH) reports that the number of new influenza-related hospitalizations rose again last week. The 994 hospitalizations from Feb. 2 to Feb. 8 marks a new high for the 2019-2020 flu season and a 19 percent increase over the previous week.
