VAN WERT – On Saturday, Jan. 18, 2020, The Van Wert Chamber of Commerce and Van Wert County Regional Airport partnered with the Fort Wayne Komets to present a Van Wert County Community Night.

The National Anthem was sung by the Merry Gentleman, a men’s A Cappella group within our community. Mayor, Ken Markward along with Steve Bailey (VW Airport) and his wife Jill; VW Chamber of Commerce President Mark Verville and his son Ben; VW Chamber of Commerce Office Administrator Brandy Leiber and her son Preston dropped the puck to start the game between the Toledo Walleyes and the Fort Wayne Komets.

Proceeds from the event were split equally between the Chamber and the Airport to aid in the airport expansion project. The Komets graciously made an additional donation based on attendance, which is included in the check being presented to the Van Wert County Regional Airport.

This first-time event was very successful, as over 200 community members were in attendance. The Chamber of Commerce plans on continuing this new tradition and is planning another event for the community within the next year.
