VAN WERT – In honor of Springdale Police Department Officer Kaia Grant, the Van Wert Ohio State Highway Patrol has placed blue lights outside their post. Officer Grant was killed in the line of duty on March 22.

Due to the coronavirus, planning a large gathering has been hard. In order to help honor Officer Grant, law enforcement around the state are using blue lights to show support for Officer Grant's family.

The suggestion was made by Light Ohio Blue, a statewide yearly campaign that shows support for law enforcement. This year's Light Ohio Blue dates are May 8-15.

Light Ohio Blue shared the following statement with law enforcement:

To honor Officer Grant and to show support for her family, agency and community, we are asking everyone to light your external lights blue for at least one week. During this unprecedented time in our state, law enforcement personnel are working to maintain everyone’s safety and during so adding yet another risk to one of the toughest and dangerous jobs in America. Showing support for our men and women in law enforcement and for their families at home will help remind them that their sacrifices and work is appreciated and recognized by their communities that they live and work in. The simple act of turning an exterior or window light blue carries a huge message to our state’s law enforcement personnel.

Please keep Officer Kaia Grant, her family and her co-workers close to your heart and in your thoughts.

The Van Wert Post has turned their lights blue and the lights will remain blue through March 29.
