"The Art of Fiber" opened at the Wassenberg Art Center on Sunday, Jan. 16. The opening reception for this large display of quilts and hooked rugs was well attended.

The main gallery is filled with colorful quilts, wall hangings, pillows and other items from the collection of Barbara Pemberton of Van Wert. Mrs. Pemberton has been quilting for many years. Her first quilt, "Barbara's Flower Garden," is on display. She notes that it took her 20 years to finish it in between other projects.

The front gallery features the work of the Black Swamp Rug Hookers and includes not only rugs but also felted purses, wall hangings, table runners and stool covers. Many of the pieces were designed by the rug hookers themselves.

A number of pieces tell stories and depict personal memories.

The show will run through February 26 and is sponsored by 1st Federal Savings & Loan and Stephanie Dawn. Exhibit hours are 1-5 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday (closed Mondays) and admission is free.
