VAN WERT – The Van Wert County Council on Aging gave area seniors a boost with the annual Christmas Giveaway Bingo at the Senior Center on Monday evening. Nearly 100 people attended the special Monday night bingo which featured the giveaway of a television, computer tablet, air fryer and miscellaneous other big prizes donated by businesses and clients in the area.

Administrative assistant Samantha Turnwald said that bingo on Monday nights is a regular one but this one is designed with a Christmas gift emphasis and to focus on the bingo night emphasis at the Senior Center.

“On Christmas Giveaway, we give away 50 large prizes. Many of them have been donated for this cause by businesses and clients. These gifts are given to those who are committed to Bingo Night,” said Turnwald.

The doors opened at 4 p.m. and bingo started at 6 p.m., said Turnwald.

Other items accompanying the evening include a 50/50 wheel, instant tickets, concessions and Texas Hold’em. All proceeds go back to the senior programs, Turnwald said.

“The money that is raised in these activities is used for the senior program, senior activities, transportation, and outreach,” noted Turnwald.

Turnwald noted that another big Christmas event taking place in December is a performance by the Van Wert High School Choir at the Council on Aging on Dec. 10 at 10:30 a.m.

“Each year the choir comes and performs beautiful Christmas music for our enjoyment,” said Turnwald. “The choir every year amazes us with their beautiful voices.

“After the choir, the Van Wert Manor will be providing a free lunch,” continued Turnwald. “Please join us for a wonderful time of music, good food and fellowship.”

Those planning to attend are encouraged to call the Council on Aging at 419-238-5011 to reserve a spot.
