CONVOY — The Crestview Board of Education honored Intervention Specialist Cindy Tinnel Monday evening during its November meeting. Tinnel, who is in her 33rd year in the field of public education, was named the recipient of the 2019 Kathe Shelby Award. Superintendent Kathy Mollenkopf complimented Tinnel on her achievement, saying she has always been an advocate for students with special needs. High School Principal Dave Bowen said, "I'm just very proud of Cindy's accomplishment. It's well earned."

During its focus on education, Board members had the opportunity to compete against members of the high school scholastic bowl team. Advisor Sandra Grooms told the Board that team members compete about once a month. They are currently preparing to compete at BGSU, which Grooms described as "one of our favorite formats." She added that Crestview was the recent runner-up at the NWC competition and had competed in Hicksville in a National Academic Quiz Tournament or NAQT. "It's a little more difficult," Grooms said. "Thirty-six teams were there from four states. We did all right. We didn't win but we learned. We keep learning."

In other matters, the Board:

Extended congratulations to Senior Ragen Harting as a high school girls’ cross country state finalist, Coach Jeff Bagley and Coach Randy Grandstaff.

Accepted the resignation of Katie Griffiths as a food service worker after serving three years with the district.

Approved the Crestview Driving School to use school facilities, including classrooms within the building, during the school day for driver education instructional purposes.

Approved the second and final reading of the proposed new, revised, deleted and/or replacement Volume 38, Number 1 Crestview Board of Education Bylaws & Policies as presented.

Approved the OSBA Media Honor Roll 2019 recipients Sherry Missler/The Times Bulletin and Scott Truxell/ The VW Independent to the 2019 OSBA Media Honor Roll.

The Board adjourned to executive session, however no action was taken.

The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Board of Education is set for Dec. 16, 2019, at 6 p.m. in the Board of Education Administrative Office.
