VAN WERT - A disaster was avoided on Monday afternoon when a helicopter was able to set down safely in an emergency landing on the grounds of the former Ridgeway Drive-in on W. Main St. in Van Wert.

Andrew Gordon made a precautionary landing when he believed he had an issue with the helicopter he was piloting. Although the craft was set down in an unusual location, no one was injured in the landing. Tom Dunno, Van Wert County Regional Airport Manager, was on hand to help Gordon go to retrieve a truck and trailer in order to take the helicopter off the property for an inspection.

Gordon attributed his safe landing in the situation to his training as a pilot.
