VAN WERT – Van Wert’s first baby of the new year has arrived, and it’s a girl!

Amora Katalina was born at 8:23 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 4, 2019, to Dulce Vasquez and Giovanni Basile. Amora weighed in at 7 pounds, 13 ounces and was 21 inches in length.

As the first baby of the new year, Van Wert Health donated a care package worth $275 which included a huge box of diapers, wipes, books, health and hygiene items, and gift cards from local businesses.

Vasquez said even though this is her first child, she is not very nervous.

“I’m actually more excited,” said Vasquez who said she’s excited to see her new baby grow. “I can’t wait until she can grow into her future.”

Basile said he’s excited to hear her talk for the first time.

Vasquez said her pregnancy and labor were both relatively easy and she noted that she was up and walking that night – only a few hours after giving birth.

Vasquez is originally from Kentucky where she and Basile met in high school. Basile spent four years in the Army after high school. Vasquez has been livening Paulding but the pair plan to move back to Kentucky to raise their child.

Both were happy to have a healthy baby girl.
