VAN WERT – This year’s Ohio Has Talent competition, dubbed the “Champion of Champions” contest, will see the return of past Ohio Has Talent winners including Cameron Jones, who won in 2012.

“I was 14 or 15 at the time,” said Jones of his 2012 performance. “I played a song called ‘Woke Up Dreaming’ on my acoustic guitar. It was a really fun experience. You get to perform in front of a lot of people and the NPAC is a really nice facility.”

Jones said he is excited to return to the Niswonger Performing Arts Center stage because he doesn’t get a lot of opportunities to compete in challenges like Ohio Has Talent.

Jones, a Delphos native, currently resides in Elida. He graduated from Delphos Jefferson in 2015, and he recently graduated from Bowling Green University with a bachelor’s in education.

From a young age, Jones learned to play the guitar. It was something he seemed to have a natural talent for.

“I started playing guitar at 11 and that became my passion,” he said. “I never did sports in school, so music became everything I wanted to do – I wanted to play guitar and that’s the only thing I ever wanted to do.”

“I had a natural talent for it; practicing was hard and took a lot of hours of work, but I just had some type of natural ability to play the guitar and it took off,” Jones continued. “I became obsessed with it. My whole family is very musically inclined as well.”

Jones has a YouTube channel, Cameron Jones, where he posts videos of him performing. After his 2012 Ohio Has Talent win, Jones entered in other contests, and he and a band he was in played at local venues such as the Allen County Fair. Today, he is often asked to perform at weddings and other such events.

“I’m really looking forward to competing with all the champions of previous years,” said Jones. “It’s going to be really fun, and I’m looking forward, mainly, to getting back on stage and playing again.”

For his Ohio Has Talent “Champion of Champions” performance, Jones plans to play a melody of songs on the acoustic guitar as well as “I’ll Never Love Again” – a song performed by Lady Gaga in “A Star Is Born.”

This year’s Ohio Has Talent “Champion of Champions” competition is set for Feb. 22 at 7 p.m. at the Niswonger Performing Arts Center.

Proceeds from Ohio Has Talent will benefit the Community Health Professionals (CHP) patient care fund for in-home hospice. As a nonprofit hospice, CHP works with patients and families regardless of their financial situation. The patient care fund helps cover gaps for uncovered patient care expenses and enables CHP to continue providing compassionate care throughout Northwest and West Central Ohio.
