PAULDING — A semi-trailer load of oranges were lost when the rear tires of a tractor-trailer rig caught fire Tuesday afternoon on U.S. 24 near Paulding.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, at 2:45 p.m. a 2013 Kenworth driven by Jaspal Dosanjh, 33, Brampton, Ontario was eastbound on U.S. 24 near the intersection with U.S. 127 when he noticed smoke coming from the trailer area. Dosanjh pulled to the side of the road and saw tht the rear tires of the trailer were on fire. He tried to put out the fire with his fire extinguisher but was unable to get to it becuase of the amount of smoke and flames. Dosanjh then unhitched his trailer and pulled the cab away before fire reached it. Dosenjh was not injured.

Before 4 p.m. fire crews arrived from the Crane Township Volunteer Fire Department with assistance from Paulding Fire Department and EMS, Ohio Department of Transportation, Paulding County Sheriff’s Office, and Paulding County EMA.

The cause of the blaze is unknown and is still under investigation.
