VAN WERT – The Vantage Board of Education covered a variety of topics, including updates on current programs, during a brief meeting on Thursday.

During his report, Superintendent Rick Turner gave an update on the State’s new biannual budget.

“This budget has a piece that really emphasizes and incentivises industry recognized credentials at both the high school and adult levels,” said Turner who noted that the piece fits well into Vantage’s goal of creating opportunities for students to earn credentials. “We will continue to make this a high priority here at Vantage to serve those students and meet the needs of local business and industry.”

Turner reported that the Ohio Technical Center received a full program approval for five-years for the nursing program.

“That’s just absolutely unheard of for a brand new program like that,” said Turner. Students that were part of the first nursing class at Vantage recently graduated. Twenty-three students will be starting the next round of nursing classes.

Turner also reported that all nine students in the first Firefighter 1 program passed their exams.

During his report, High School Director Mike Knott reported that in total 16 high school students have gained their Class A CDL since the program began.
