VAN WERT, Ohio — Evelyn G. (Adams) Scott, 87, of Van Wert, died at 3:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 26, 2017, at the Meadows of Kalida.
Evelyn
was born June 27, 1930, in Putnam County, Greensburg Township. She
lived in Ohio all of her life except for several months in Norfolk,
Virginia, when her husband served in the Navy during the Korean War.
On Oct. 21, 1951, she married Elmo F. Scott at First United Methodist Church in Van Wert.
Evelyn
worked at Blue Cross, Blue Shield in Lima as a bank manager. From
1968-1977, she was Van Wert County Department of Motor Vehicle deputy
registrar.
Evelyn graduated from Kalida High School in 1947 and
graduated from The Ohio State University in 1990 with a Bachelor of Fine
Arts degree. She attended Grace Methodist Church in Van Wert County,
taught Sunday school for several years and was a member of Grace Women’s
fellowship. Other organizations she was affiliated with were the
Wassenberg Art Center, where she served on the board for many years, she
was the founder and teacher of Art Start (an after-school art class),
taught watercolor classes at The Ohio State University, Lima. She
continued to love doing art and received several awards for her
paintings. She was a member of the YWCA board and also worked at the
front desk for several years.
Evelyn was a 4-H advisor for Hoaglin
Jackson Neat Petites Club, a member of Home Extension HCE Club Sugar
and Spice from 1963 to present. During her membership, she served in all
offices of the club. She was former chairperson for T.W.I.G. II and
served as chairperson of the All T.W.I.G. board. Her hobbies were art,
photography, reading, bird watching, gardening and travel. She was a
Master Gardener and her and Elmo traveled to all 50 states, South
America (Paraguay and Rio De Janeiro), Africa, Spain, Bahamas and also
enjoyed traveling on cruises through the Panama Canal and to many
different islands.
Her four children were the treasures of her
life, Philip (Diann) Scott, Melanie (Jeff) Souder, Kristine (Don)
Goodman and Catherine (Gustavo) Baltazar. She is also survived by 14
grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Her parents, Claire
(Miller) Adams and G. Cleveland Adams, preceded her in death. Her
brother, Delmar (Edythe) Adams, and sisters, Rachel (Stanley)
Wannemacher, Thelma (Wilbur) Eyer, also preceded her in death.
A
private family graveside service will be held at Ridge Cemetery, Middle
Point, Ohio. Evelyn’s family will receive friends at 1 p.m. Tuesday,
Aug. 29, 2017, at Elmo and Evelyn’s home in Van Wert.
In lieu of flowers, preferred memorials may be directed to a Juvenile Diabetes or Alzheimer’s association.
