SPENCERVILLE - Martha Jean (Coffman) Wood
went to be with her Savior on Sunday, August 9, 2015. She died at home
with her family surrounding her with love, prayers, singing of praise to
God. She was 81 years-old.
She was born near Spencerville, Ohio,
to parents Orville and Gladys (Marbaugh) Coffman who were farmers.
Martha was the youngest of eleven children. Her family attended Pleasant
Grove Baptist Church where Martha began her Christian faith journey.
She was baptized at Clays Pit near Mendon, Ohio when she was 14
years-old.
After graduation from Spencerville High School in 1951,
she attended Lima Memorial School of Nursing, graduating in 1954 as a
Registered Nurse. She married her high school classmate, Max Wood. They
celebrated 58 years of marriage.
Their children include Christine
(Scott) Fetzer of Elida, OH, Rev. Mary Wood of Swanton, OH, and USAF,
MSgt (retired) Mark (Eun Kyong “EK”) Wood of Spencerville, OH. Her
grandchildren whom she treasured include Denny (Linda) Fetzer, Rev. Cory
(Jeni) Fetzer, Mindy Fetzer, Danielle “Jess” Clark, and Haiden Wood.
Great-grandchildren include Bradley and Micah Fetzer whom she loved.
Martha
was an active church member First Baptist Church, Spencerville, where
she taught adult Sunday School, and sang in the church choir. She also
attended Faith Baptist Church, Winter Haven, FL, and was an active
member for many years at First Baptist Church, Lima, OH.
She was
preceded in death by her parents; infant son; brothers Maurice (Agatha)
Wright, Wilbert “Buss” (Mildred), Merle, Harold Coffman; sisters Aileen
(Sherman) Riley, Marie (Simon Miller and Dale Savage) Savage, Lucille
(Glen) Goodwin and Marilyn (Alfred) Emans, Mendon, OH.
She is
survived by her husband; three children; 5 grandchildren; 2
great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Jane (Carl) Putman, New Haven, IN;
brother, Homer (Eva) Coffman, Edgerton, OH; sister-in-laws, Marjorie
Coffman, Lima, OH and Mildred “Mid” (Edward) Graessle, Elida, OH;
special friend of Marilyn Emans, Eugene “Gene” Krick, Spencerville, OH;
several nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank the caring
staff at Grand Lake Hospice, church friends, neighbors and family for
their faithful prayers and compassionate support.
A service of
celebration to the Lord for Martha’s life will be held at First Baptist
Church, 115 E. Second Street, Spencerville, Ohio on Saturday, August 15,
at 11 a.m. Visitation will be held at the church prior to the service
at 10 a.m. Pastor Jim Fletcher will present the Gospel message.
Visitation
with the family will be held on Friday, August 14, from 2-4 p.m. and
6-8 p.m. at Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home, 728 E. Fourth Street,
Spencerville, OH. A graveside service will take place following the
service at Spencerville Cemetary.
