VAN WERT — GKN Freight Services, Inc. has donated $2,500 in 2015 to Westwood Behavioral Health Center, with the assistance of the GKN Foundation, as part of its commitment to enhance its contributions both locally and globally.

Under the leadership of Judge Martin Burchfield, Drug Court has marked the six-month point since the first individuals were selected for participation in Drug Court, an intensive 18-month program designed for individuals with dependence on alcohol and/or drugs.

During these six months there have been some positive and encouraging outcomes. The retention rate in treatment has been much higher than that of traditional outpatient programs.

Of the 18 initial participants, 15 remain active and are working their way through the program. Participants are staying clean. Daily drug screens are completed for individuals in the first phase of the program, and over 95 percent of screens have been negative for drugs.

Individuals in the program are successful in holding jobs, pursuing educational interests, and becoming more responsible parents and citizens. While the program is young successes that are being seen, and the positive reports from other communities running similar programs, is cause for excitement.

GKN Freight Services is in full support of this very worthwhile cause.
