The Van Wert Middle School Football team defeated Wapak 22-0 on Thursday. Michael Smelser scored the Cougars' first touchdown and PAT on the first drive of the game. Julian Salinas collected the Cougars second touchdown of the 1st quarter with quarterback Tyler Williams converting the 2-pt conversion. This touchdown was set up by a Williams pass to Matthew Bidlack to get the Cougars down to the Redskin 12-yd line. The Cougars defense held strong the rest of the half to take a 16-0 advantage after two quarters.

The play of the game came in the third quarter by Van Wert's Jacob Scheidt. A Wapak defender intercepted a pass on Van Wert's first possession of the quarter. On the run back, Scheidt's hit forced the Wapak defender to fumble the ball. Van Wert's Chandler Adams scooped up the fumble and returned it for a touchdown. Van Wert's offense continued to move the ball in the second half, but could not put the ball in the endzone anymore. The Cougar defense did not allow Wapak to pose a serious threat in the second half. Van Wert's Nick Krugh had an interception, while Elijah Wortman and Adams recovered fumbles for Van Wert.

The Middle School Football Team's record is now 4-2 and they will face St. Marys at home on Thursday, Oct 15th to finish their season.
