PAULDING- The Crestview Knights travelled to the Jungle at Paulding High School to take on Northwest Conference foe the Paulding Panthers in boys high school basketball action. The Knights picked up the NWC win with a 62-38 victory.

The Panthers jumped out to a 7-2 lead getting five points from Carson Shull. Crestview responded with five points from Wade Sheets and the Knights closed out the first quarter with back-to-back 3-pointers from Derek Dealey.

The back to back triples from Dealey put the Knights up 13-9. The Panthers opened the second quarter with a trey from Fletcher Cook, 13-12 Crestview.

The Knights went on a 10-0 run in the second period getting two 3-pointers, one each from Sheets and Dealey. Crestview worked their lead up to ten points at 22-12 and closed out the first half with a 27-17 advantage over Paulding.

Early in the third period, four points from Sheets put the Knights up 31-18 before back-to-back 3-pointer from Paulding cut Crestview’s lead to 31-24. Jaret Miller and Cook both hit triples for Paulding.

Midway through the third quarter, Crestview worked their lead to 37-27 right before the end of the third period. Four points from Carson Kreischer and a layup from Colton Lautzenheiser sent Crestview into the fourth quarter up 43-27.

Javin Etzler knock down back-to-back buckets to bring the fourth quarter score to 47-29, Knights. Two foul shots from Kalen Etzler and a layup from Lautzenheiser to put Crestview up 55-35.

Brant Richardson closed out the fourth quarter with six straight points to give Crestview a 62-38 win on Friday night.

“I thought we were a little slow getting going,” said Crestview basketball coach Jeremy Best. “We are a man-to-man team and we usually wait a little bit to see what the other team is doing. They did a good job of being patience in the half court and had us scrambling a little bit. But I thought we needed to switch that and make them scramble. And I believe we did that in the second quarter and were able to go up ten.”

“I was really pleased we weren’t really sharp at times,”continued Best. “Javin and Kalen were guarded pretty well at times and they took us out of what we wanted to do, but we had guys step up and make shots. Derek and Wade both had good nights. All three of our guys had solid nights off the bench for us. You have to respect those guys because they are able to make plays off the bench,”

The Knights improve to 17-1 on the year and 5-1 in the NWC. Crestview still controls their own destiny in the NWC. Paulding drops to 7-8 on the season and 3-3 in the NWC.
