Cougars knock off O-G

VAN WERT — Van Wert scored single runs in the third and fifth innings Saturday to claim a 5-3 Western Buckeye League win over Ottawa-Glandorf.

The Cougars never trailed in the game as they led 2-0 after one inning and 3-2 after two innings. After O-G retied the game in the top of the third, Van Wert scored in the bottom of the inning, then added an insurance run in the fifth inning.

Owen Treece picked up the win for the Cougars as he went the distance allowing three runs, one earned, on four hits with six strikeouts and two walks.

Jake Lautzenheiser had two hits and drove in two runs for Van Wert, while Darius Eddins had a single and two RBIs. Lawson Blackmore had a double for the Cougars.

Evan Balash took the loss for O-G as he allowed five runs, four earned, on six hits with four strikeouts and four walks. Jaxon Buddelmeyer gave up two hits in an inning for the Titans.

Nathan Arrington had a single and RBI for the Titans and Grant Fuerst had an RBI.

MILLER CITY — Miller City used a solid pitching performance from Mark Kuhlman Friday evening to defeat Wayne Trace 5-1 in non-league action.

Kuhlman picked up the win as he allowed one run on two hits with six strikeouts. Both hits for the Raiders were singles.

The Wildcats took the lead in the second inning with a run, then scored two runs in both the third and sixth innings.

Cole Niese had a double and RBI for Miller City (12-8), while Tyler Schroeder and Tyler Otto both had an RBI. Noah Otto had a double in the game for the Wildcats.

Hawk, Fokine make college commitments

ROCKFORD – Parkway seniors Haley Hawk and Reece Fokine committed on Friday to further their educational and athletic careers at the collegiate level next fall.

Hawk, a 3-time Midwest Athletic Conference softball Player of the Year and 3-time first-team all-Ohio selection, inked an agreement to attent Muskingum University, a Division III school in the Ohio Athletic Conference. Fokine will wrestle at Wabash College, a Division III school located in Crawfordsville, Indiana.

Crestview knocked off the Lady Indians of Fort Recovery on Monday, winning 11-3.

Kali Small earned the win, working the first five innings for the Lady Knights. Crestview was led offensively by Caitlin O’Hagan, who doubled twice, as did Lexi Gregory. Breena Grace homered in the win.
