DEFIANCE - High school boys golf teams from around northwest Ohio started their 2019 seasons on Monday by taking part in the Defiance Invitational at Eagle Rock Golf Course.

North Central won the tournament by nipping fellow Buckeye Border Conference member Pettisville as the Eagles carded a 333 while the Blackbirds posted a 334 to take second place.

Pettisville’s Tommy McWatters carded a 73 and North Central’s Chace Boothman had a 74 to lead their respective teams. Defiance’s Will Lammers also had a 74 to tie for second individually, leading the Bulldogs to a third place finish with a 336.

Ottawa Glandorf finished fourth overall at 341 and Kalida was fifth with a 346. Wayne Trace (358) was sixth with Napoleon (359), Wauseon (360), Bryan (365) and Antwerp (368) rounding out the top ten schools.

Tinora (371), Defiance ‘B’ (373), Van Wert (378), Fairview (379), Paulding (399), Celina (424), Ayersville (436), Patrick Henry (449), Archbold (472) and Holgate (482) completed the list of full teams participating.

The Titans were led by Zach Stechschulte with an 81 followed by Alex Ellerbrock (82), Carter Schimmoeller (85), Carson Trombley (93) and Brayden Buckland (94).

Ryan Klausing carded an 83 to pace Kalida with Josh Recker and Justin Siebeneck both posting an 87. Alec Edelbrock added an 89 and David Peck recorded a 91 for the Wildcats.

Junior Kaden Sutton had a 79 in leading Wayne Trace with Dane Moore (92), Cale Crosby (92), Reid Miller (95) and Evan Crosby (101) completing the list of Raider golfers.

For Antwerp, Jake Eaken topped the blue and white with an 87 and Austin Lichty added an 89. Gaige McMichael (95), Eric Thornell (97) and Jayvin Landers (112) completed the Antwerp lineup.

Van Wert got a 90 from Evan Knittle with Zane Fast and Cameron Terhark both posting a 95. Jace Fast also had a 98 for the Cougars.

Panther scorers were Kolson Egnor (85), Noah Pessefall (98), Logan Tope (106), Josh Carper (110) and Hailey Hartzell (116).
