MIDDLE POINT – The Lincolnview Lancers were looking to rebound after a tough loss to Kalida on Friday, but standing in their way was perennial powerhouse Ottoville as they faced off Saturday night at Lincolnview High School.

Despite a brilliant performance from Lincolnview senior Chayten Overholt, who racked up 31 points, the Lancers came up short to the Green, 77-66.

It was go time from the opening buzzer for both squads, as high-paced offense combined with a bombardment of 3-pointers. Logan Kemper opened the contest with a stand-alone three for the Big Green. Then it was Zane Miller's turn for Lincolnview, as he hit one from the wing and made it 5-3, Lancers. Kemper was just getting warmed up though, and followed up with a pair from downtown including a no-look three. His set from behind the arc gave Ottoville a 9-5 advantage.

Overholt showed off his range with a long 2-point field goal, and a NBA three to cut in to the Big Green lead.

The explosive offense of Lincolnview began to slow late in the first quarter, and allowed Ottoville to extend their lead. Nick Moorman and Josh Thorbahn provided threes for the Green to close out the opening quarter. Overholt sank a triple with :30 remaining in the first, but it did little to discourage Ottoville.

The Big Green extended their lead in the second quarter. Two free throws by Kemper and a three by Ryan Bendele helped push the Ottoville lead to double-digits. Bendele finished the half with 18 points, including a spectacular stop-and-pop jump shot, as the Big Green continued to surge. Overholt hit a jump shot from mid-range as the buzzer sounded, but Ottoville remained in the driver’s seat, and led at the half 40-27.

Lincolnview picked up the pace on defense in the third quarter, but it did little to slow Logan Kemper. He scored a team high 22 points and kicked off the second half with a hook shot low in the post. Bendele hit a 3-pointer from the wing to give the Green an 18-point advantage. Ottoville lacked a long scoring streak, but continued to chip away at the Lancers. By the end of the third quarter, the Big Green maintained their advantage and enjoyed an 18-point cushion heading in to the fourth; 57-39, Ottoville.

There was no lack of scoring in the final quarter of action. Caden Ringwald nailed a set of threes to get things rolling early. Heavy defensive pressure forced Ottoville to call consecutive timeouts and brought the home crowd back to life. The Big Green maintained a solid lead despite the Lincolnview momentum shift. With under 5:00 to play in the game, and with a 20-point advantage, the Big Green’s senior standout Logan Kemper went down with a lower leg injury. He did not return to the game. The Lancers closed the gap to within 10, but the depth and experience of the Big Green was too much to handle. Ottoville went on to secure a 77-66 victory over the Lancers.

Ottoville head coach Keith Utendorf discussed the injury to Logan Kemper after the game.

“We don’t know the severity yet, it’s hurt pretty bad, I know that. He has had some ankle issues in the past, so it’s kind of a wait-and-see,” he said. “To beat a team like this, and in this environment, is defiantly an accomplishment. We had a lot of guys step up, the guys coming off the bench mixed in well with our starters.”

Lancer head coach Brett Hammons was happy with his team’s solid effort.

“It’s the same story just a different night. Give my guys credit, once again they battled back, but give Ottoville credit as well. We need to be more balanced on both ends of the floor. This is the most points we have given up all year, but we have four days of practice to get ready for Ft. Recovery next Saturday.”
