VAN WERT - The Lady Cougar tennis team just kept on rolling with a 4-1 win over St Marys on Monday night. With the win, Van Wert moves to 7-1 overall on the season, and 5-0 in the WBL.

“This was a very good St. Mary’s team that we beat tonight,” said Van Wert Head Coach Eli Alvarez. “Coach Krugh always does a great job with that program, and I am very proud of how we competed tonight.”

Van Wert’s doubles teams continued to set the tone as they have all season for the Cougars.

Allie Etter and Paige Moonshower found little resistance from their opponents Allyson Tagle and Jaden Gibson, as they rolled in straight sets 6-2, 6-1.

Jada Buckner and Kaylee Jennings also made quick work of Ashley Dawsen and Alivia Sawmiller in their 6-1, 6-1.

Coach Alvarez believes that all four of his doubles players are currently playing the best tennis of their High School careers.

Grace Lott dropped the only match of the day in her hard fought battle with Allie Vanderhorst, an opponent that has already given her problems this season.

Lott fared much better in this matchup despite losing by taking Vanderhorst to three sets with scored of 6-4, 4-6 and 3-6.

Alli Morrow defeated Grace Dodson 6-1, 6-4, and Lizzie Rutkowski took down Charley Spencer 6-1, 6-1.

The Cougars will next face the Elida Bulldogs in a WBL matchup on Thursday evening.
