CONVOY — In the last conference game of the season the Crestview Lady Knights showed out, sweeping the Spencerville Bearcats 25-8, 25-11, 25-6. With the win tonight, Crestview has clinched a co-NWC title with Columbus Grove.

“The girls knew regardless of who the team was, regardless of what the record was we had to take care of conference games every night,” said Crestview head coach Tammy Gregory.

Gregory said winning the NWC was one of the main goals of Crestview all season long. This will mark the 19th time the Lady Knights have found themselves at the top of the NWC, the most in the conference. Columbus Grove has the second most titles with just eight.

The Lady Knights can give a big thank you to rival Lincolnview who beat Paulding tonight, as if the Lady Panthers would have won they too would have a share of the title.

On top of clinching the NWC co-title, the Lady Knights honored seniors Kimber Adams and Avery McCoy. For this game being the last home game of the regular season for Crestview it was also senior night.

Spencerville scored only 25 points on the entire match, which is a testament to how in-control Crestview was the entire match.

“We knew it was going to be different than what we are use too” said Gregory. “Playing with a faster tempo was different, but I thought the girls adapted well.”

The Lady Knights controlled each set, as the only time the Bearcats held a lead was when they scored to start the second set. As the scores reflect, Crestview controlled each facet of the game en-route the victory.

The Lady Knights had two different girls hammer home double-digit kills in Lexi Gregory with 11 and the senior Avery McCoy put home 10 on her senior night.

McCoy received an ovation as she exited the match in the third set when the Lady Knights were a point away from finishing the match.

Kimber Adams put three kills away herself.

Crestview will travel to Leipsic on Thursday for one last tune-up match.

“We use Leipsic to prepare for tournament,” said Gregory. “It’s going to be a completely different match. They have some big hitters, and they are ranked in the state so it is a great preparation for tournament.”

The Lady Knights served extremely well, as Maddy Lamb put away five aces, Lexi Gregory had two and McCoy had three. Lamb also led the team in assists with 16, while McCoy dipped her toe with 10. Bailey and Lexi Gregory led the team in digs with 18 and 17 respectively.

“We aren’t huge,” said the Crestview head coach of things her team needs to focus on heading into the playoffs. “So it’s defense. There will be big hitters coming at us but have to keep focus because defense is what is going to win us games. We just need to own the court, and we have some girls that are going to set up to the challenge. We are ready to make something happen.”
