VANWERT- The Crestview Knights kicked off what they would hope would be a long tournament run on Friday night at Van Wert High School against Temple Christian Pioneer for a Division IV sectional title. The Knights picked up a 57-22.

Temple Christian and Crestview played to a 4-4 tie early in the first quarter. The Knights got back-to-back 3-pointers from Derick Dealey and Javin Etzler to make the score 10-4.

Brody Bowman hit a mid-range jumper to end the mini-run by Crestview but the Knights got another 6-0 run this time getting four points from Carson Kreischer, 16-6.

Bowman hit two foul shots for the final points of the first quarter which saw Crestview have a 16-8 lead.

Bowman hit a 3-pointer and a jumper for the Pioneers to start the second quarter and cut the Crestview lead to 16-13.

After a Crestview timeout with 6:10 left in the first half, the Knights went on a 29-0 run that spanned two quarters. Crestview ended the first half with a 15-0 run to go up 31-13 after two quarters.

The Knights opened the third quarter with a 14-0 run bring the score to 45-13. The 29-0 run featured eight points from Kalen Etzler and six points from Javin Etzler.

The 29-0 by Crestview effectively ended any hope of an upset by the Pioneers simply due to the lengthy of the run. Temple Christian ended the Knights run with five straight points from Bowman to bring the third quarter score to 45-18, Crestview.

“I was proud of our kids during the run I thought we kept our composure and staying within ourselves,” said Crestview basketball coach Jeremy Best. “Especially when at times there wasn’t flow. I was proud of our guys and hanging in there and focusing on us for that they deserve a lot of credit.”

The Knights size and length was a huge factor in the game on Friday night. Crestview out rebounded the Pioneers by 33 to 12. The Knights also forced 25 turnovers from Temple Christian.

“It’s just one at a time that is our goal just one win at a time. Tonight was Temple Christian and we will get prepared for however is next,” said Crestview coach Best.

The Knights advance to face the winner of Delphos St. Johns and Lima Central Catholic on Tuesday night at Elida High School.
