GREENVILLE — Van Wert’s boys golf team made a trek down to Darke County on Thursday to take part in the 12-team Greenville Invitational, held at Turtle Creek Golf Course.

The 18-hole tournament was captured by Beavercreek, which carded a 328 to edge Northmonth, who finished with a 329. Troy (335) followed in third place. Van WErt placed eighth as a team with a 386.

The Cougars were led by a 93 by sophomore Gavin Flickinger. Junior Zane Fast carded a 94, and Evan Knittle followed with a 95. The fouth scorer for the Cougars was Cameron Terhark’s 104. First-man Austin Bissonette struggled to a 57 on the back nine, finishing with a 105 on the day. Jace Fast played to a 118 score.

Flickinger’s total was tied for 25th among the 73 individual players in the field. The tournament medalist was Troy’s Holden Scribner, who posted a 5-over par 76 to lead all players. Colton Carter (Beavercreek) and David Richards (Northmont) each shot a 78.

Van Wert’s team returns to action with a date at the Celina Invitational, to be played at Celina Lynx Golf Club beginning at 8:30 a.m.
