KALIDA — Van Wert played in its second 18-hole tournament of the young golf season on Wednesday, shooting a team score of 374 at the Kalida Wildcat Invitational at Country Acres. The host team won the 18-team event with a 326, led by Christian Nartker’s 75. Bryan’s Connor Shirkey was the tournament medalist with his 74.

The Cougars were paced by an 88 by Zane Fast and an 89 from Austin Bissonette. Evan Knittle shot a 98 and Cameron Terhark shot a 99. Van Wert’s team score 0f 374 shaved 18 strokes off the total they managed at Monday’s Defiance Invitational.

Tinora posted a 335 to finish as team runners-up in the event. The Rams were led by matching 77’s from Dylan Von Devlen and Collin Derrow. A fifth-man tie-breaker helped Bryan place third at 342, edging Shawnee with the same score. Paulding and Ottawa-Glandorf each posted totals of 344, followed by Delphos St. John’s at 349 in what was an amazingly competitive field. The Panthers were paced by Cole Heller’s 77. O-G’s low man was Austin Radcliffe, with an 82. The Blue Jays were led by Adam Gerker’s 77 and Grant Csukker’s 86. Jared Lucas carded a 91 for the Jays, and Trent Lindeman added a 95.

Ottoville posted a team score of 365, including an an 84 from Carter Schnipke and an 86 by Dylan Kemper. Evan Turnwald carded a 92 while Jack Langhals added a 103.

Fort Jennings (462) was led by Logan Schimmoeller’s 109.

Josh Recker posted a 78 for Kalida while David Peck added an 86 and Alec Edelbrock posted a round of 87.

The next action for Van Wert is the Greenville Boys Golf Invitational on Thursday morning at Turtle Creek Golf Course. The Cougars will be one of 10 schools competing.
