CONVOY — Crestview scratched out a pair of solo runs Thursday afternoon to claim a pitchers duel from Miller City 2-0 in a Division IV sectional championship game.

The Knights (18-4) advance to the Division IV district semi-finals at Elida Tuesday against the Lima Central Catholic-Wayne Trace winner. Miller City bows out of the tournament at 5-7.

In a game between the third seeded Knights and fifth seeded Wildcats, Crestview managed to score a run in the third inning and an insurance run in the sixth inning to claim this pitchers duel. The two runs would be all Crestview starter Kali Small needed as she dominated the Wildcats lineup from the circle.

With just one base runner through two and a half innings, Codi Miller singled in the second inning for Crestview, the Knights pushed across a run for the lead.

Avery McCoy led off the Crestview third with a double to center field and scored on a one out double by Bailey Gregory, to center, to give the Knights a 1-0 lead. A pair of groundouts kept Gregory from coming around to score and adding to the lead.

Small was in charge for the Knights in the circle as she struck out the first seven Wildcat batters before Isabelle Vance put a ball in playing grounding out to Small on a bunt attempt. Miller City got their first base runner in the fourth as Abby Niese worked a walk before Small retired the next three batters, two on strikeouts, to strand Niese at first base.

Niese broke up Small’s no hit bid in the sixth as she doubled with two outs. A groundout ended the Wildcats mini threat.

Crestview added an insurance run in their half of the sixth as Lexi Gregory singled to center with one out, took second on a passed ball and moved to third on a groundout before scoring on a Hannah Binnon infield single.

Miller City had a brief scoring threat in the top of the seventh as Kylie Berner doubled to center field to led off the inning. Small finished the game by striking out the next three batters to end the game.

Small finished the game with 16 strikeouts and allowed just the two hits.

Bailey Gregory and Binnon both had a hit and RBI for the Knights, while. McCoy and Codi Miller had doubles.

Berner took the loss for the Wildcats as she allowed two runs, one earned, on seven hits with three strikeouts.
