PAULDING-The Crestview Knights travelled north to Paulding High School on a cold Friday night for Northwest Conference football action against the Paulding Panthers on senior night at Keysor Field. The Knights picked up a 50-8 victory over Paulding to earn a share of the NWC crown.

Three teams came into Friday night’s week ten matchup with a 5-1 record in the NWC; Crestview, Columbus Grove and Spencerville. All three sides hit the road to face below .500 teams in the form of Paulding, Bluffton and Delphos Jefferson.

The first Crestview drive featured two long run from Brody Becht. Becht later capped the drive with a one yard touchdown run with 8:46 left in the first quarter. Drew Kline converted the two point try with a short run to put the Knights up 8-0.

After a Panther three-and-out, Crestview scored on their next drive thanks to a 21 yard dash from Kline. Kline found Javin Eztler on a fade route for the two point conversion with 1:00 left in the first period.

Kline caught a one-handed interception to get the Knights the ball back. Kline connected with Wade Sheet for the first play of the second quarter. Kline ended the drive with a six yard touchdown run as Crestview went up 22-0 with 11:00 minutes on the clock.

Crestview recovered the onside kick and four plays later, Kline found Caleb Pruitt for a 14 yard touchdown pass with 10:09 in the half. Brecht added the two point conversion to put the Knights up 30-0.

The first half ended with a 91 yard interception returned for a touchdown by Sheets to put Crestview up 36-0.

The Knights scored on their first drive of the second half as Kline dashed in from 40 yards out to give Crestview a 43-0 lead. Later in contest, Crestview got a 35 yard run from Logan Gerardot to put the Knights up 50-0.

Paulding ended the score with a long touchdown pass as Payton Beckham found Hunter Kesler for 39 yard connection. The Panthers added the two point conversion on the ground to cut the Knight’s lead to 50-8.

“We talked about being focused and finishing the season how we wanted too,” said Crestview football coach Jared Owens. “We talked about this being our conference championship game tonight in our minds. Our guys from start to finish were able to execute very well.”

“We were able to play well enough that we were able to get a bunch of kids in tonight,” finished coach Owens. “And as far as I know we came out of the game relatively healthy. Just a good night for Crestview football.”

Crestview improves to 9-1 on the year and 6-1 which is good enough for a three way split of the NWC crown. The Panthers drop to 3-7 on the season and 3-4 in the NWC. Knights currently sit second in the latest poll for region 28 in division VII, which should give the Knights a home playoff game next Saturday night.
