CONVOY — Closing out games is often times a challenging experience for teams. The Lady Knights of Crestview were able to hold of a well coached Jefferson team Thursday night 54-46.

In all sports two different periods are more easily remembered than the rest— the beginning and the end. This rang true Thursday night. Crestview jumped out and scored their first 12 points on threes; Lexi Gregory herself scored the first nine points of the game for the Lady Knights.

“That was big for us to get started early,” said Crestview head coach Mark Gregory. “Lexi [Gregory] had some threes in the first quarter which got us going a little bit. I thought out energy tonight was tremendous.”

That energy persisted throughout the game for both teams, as though Jefferson never once had the lead, they were always within striking distance.

In the first quarter in light of Crestview continuing to hit 3-pointers, the Lady Jeffcats kept pace. Each time Crestview went down the floor and hit a shot, Jefferson answered with their own lay up or a bucket in the paint.

Jefferson called upon three different players for rebuttals all night; Delaney Deuel, Addy Stewart and Aly Lindeman all attributed double digit points during the NWC match up. Deuel lead the team with 13, 10 of which were scored in the second half, while Stewart and Lindeman tacked on 11 and 10 respectively.

The closest that Jefferson ever came with taking the lead happened early on the second quarter. Aly Lindeman connected on two free throw tries to make the game 14-12. The next possession Jefferson’s Raegan Hammons connected on her first free-throw, she missed the second attempt and Crestview went down and immediately scored. Crestview went on a run and never held a lead under seven points for the rest of the game.

“Credit Delphos Jefferson, they play so hard and are very physical,” continued coach Gregory. “[Physical play] was something that early on in the year we struggled with. Tonight, at times, we handled that physicality pretty well.”

Lexi Gregory shined on Thursday as she led the game with 22 points, she connected on five 3-pointers while also grabbing five rebounds, seven assists, three steals and two blocks. Bailey Gregory was also a distributor dishing out five assists, Haley Speith connected on two 3-pointer en route a eight point performance.

“Towards the end I was really proud of our girls finishing the game off,” said Gregory. “We’ve had a couple of games this year were we haven’t finished in the fourth quarter and we did tonight.”

Crestview is now 6-5 and 2-2 in the NWC. Delphos Jefferson is 6-8, 1-2 in the NWC.
