WAPAKONETA - The Lady Cougar tennis team took their second loss of the season at the hands of of Wapakoneta Redskins 4-1 on Tuesday night.

“Across the board we got off to a slow start tonight,” said Van Wert Head Coach Eli Alvarez.

The lone winner of the night for the Cougars was the second doubles team of Jada Buckner and Kaylee Jennings. The pair defeated Mara Stiles and Bailey Barret in three sets 3-6, 6-4, and 6-3.

“Kaylee and Jada really played well tonight,” Alvarez said. “I’m really proud of the effort they put forward.”

As for the rest of the Cougars, Grace Lott, Lizzie Rutkowski, Alli Morrow, and the doubles team of Paige Moonshower and Allie Etter all lost to their opponents in two sets.

“Our first doubles bounced back really well in the second set, but for some reason or another we just couldn’t win the big points like we usually do,” said Alvarez following the match. “All three singles found themselves playing defensive point a little too much tonight, but forced a lot of long games.”

After the loss, Van Wert moves to 5-1 in the WBL with the Elida Bulldogs next up on Thursday.
