MIDDLE POINT — New Knoxville defeated the Lady Lancers in four sets; 21-25, 25-15, 25-16 and 25-10. Madison Williams finished the game with 13 kills and Brianna Ebel had three aces despite the 3-1 loss.

The Rangers came out strong in the opening set and went on a 6-0 run to start the contest. The early scoring streak forced Lincolnview to call a timeout and refocus.

The Lancers battled back and went on a 5-0 run of their own with help from Morgan Miller who scored an ace. Midway through the set the score was tied at 10-10 before a dropped ball by New Knoxville gave Lincolnview their first lead of the game.

The match remained neck-and-neck and was still knotted up late in the set. The Lady Lancers closed things out with a 4-0 run to take the opening set 25-21.

“I thought we played with a lot of effort in the first set,” said Lincolnview head coach JaNahn Evans. “The girls came out with energy and fired up for senior night. I want to give recognition to our seniors. All three of them are key players on this team and they all do a fantastic job for me as far as leadership.”

Lincolnview gave the Rangers all they could handle to kickoff set number two. Kendall Bollenbacher got in on the action with a couple of kills as the score remained close. She finished the match with 13 kills and a block. Another 10-10 tie ensued near the midway point before New Knoxville ran away with the set. They went on a 10-2 run to all but finish off the Lancers in the second.

A serve out of bounds by Lincolnview gave the set to the Rangers, 25-15 and tied the match at 1-1.

The Lancers went on a terror to open the third set but quickly fell off. They enjoyed an 8-2 lead before New Knoxville began their comeback.

A kill by the Rangers outside hitter Morgan Leffel made it 15-14 in favor of New Knoxville and they never looked back. They finished the set on a 10-2 run and defeated Lincolnview 25-16. The win in the third set gave Rangers a 2-1 lead in the match.

The fourth and final set belonged entirely to New Knoxville. They opened up on an 11-3 run that forced the Lancers to call two timeouts. The barrage continued around the net as the Rangers poured it on. They took the set 25-10 and the match 3-1.

“We fell short especially on that fourth set, we let errors get to our head and didn’t play through them. We need to fine tune our offense before the tournament and learn to keep the errors to a minimum,” Evans concluded.

Tasia Lauth had 19 kills for the Rangers and Carly Fledderjohann racked up 50 assists in their 3-1 win over the Lincolnview.

The Lady Lancers fall to 15-6 (5-2 NWC) while #12 New Knoxville improves to 13-7 (2-5 MAC).
