MIDDLE POINT – The Lincolnview Lancers are sectional champions after they beat the visiting Parkway Panthers 5-4 Thursday night in tournament baseball action.

Gavin Carter worked his magic from the mound early in the game. He struck out eight of the first nine batters he faced and tallied ten before the night was through. His outstanding performance kept the Panther bats quiet until the top of the fourth inning.

Lincolnview head coach Eric Fishpaw has faith in his young starter. “Carter is our ace and a guy we trust on the mound with the baseball. We have trust in him to get the job done and he came through for us.”

Thad Walker knocked in the Lancers first run of the game in the bottom of the second with a blast up the middle that scored Collin Overholt. His RBI base hit gave Lincolnview an early advantage, 1-0.

Jaden Youtsey hit a solo homer in the bottom of the third inning to give the Lancers a 2-0 lead.

The Panthers began to claw back in the top of the fourth when Jack Wehe and Clayton Agler came around to score on a single by Seth Stukey. His blast down the right field line tied the game at 2-2 and gave Parkway new life.

The battle continued in the bottom half of the inning. Collin Overholt broke the deadlock and scored on a sacrifice fly by Creed Jessee to give Lincolnview a one-run lead.

The Lancers put up two more in the fifth. Youtsey scored his second run of the game on a single by Gavin Carter to double up the Panthers 4-2. After a single by Ethan Kemler, Carter made it home on a single by Collin Overholt and gave Lincolnview a 5-2 advantage after five innings of play.

Parkway wasn’t giving up and plated one in the sixth to draw within two of the Lancers. Tristan McKee drove in Seth Stukey as the Panthers threatened for the lead.

Corey Walls doubled to start the top of the seventh inning and Agler sent him home with an RBI single to make it 5-4, but the Panthers failed to spark a rally as the tying run was left stranded at first.

Parkway head coach Luke Clouse was proud of the effort his team displayed in the game. “I can’t talk enough about our seniors. They kept us in the game and I’m proud of the way they played today. Jack Wehe did fantastic on the mound and our guys came through with the hits, but it’s tough. Lincolnview is a good team and that was a good pitcher we faced in Gavin Carter.”

Fishpaw was happy to get everyone involved in the win. “It feels great to get the win and it’s all for the kids. They put in the hard work and I am very happy with their effort across the board,” he said.

The Lancers move on to face the Crestview Knights in the district semifinals on Wednesday at Coldwater.
