CONVOY – Lincolnview and Delphos Jefferson combined for 30 hits in Friday’s Acme sectional winners’ bracket game – 17 by the Lancers, 13 by the Wildcats – but Lincolnview scored in every inning and gradually pulled away for a 14-6 win.

The Lancers (11-5-1) will play Van Wert Sunday at 1 p.m., the winner of which will advance to districts. Jefferson (5-10) plays Delphos St. John’s in an elimination game Saturday at 12:30 p.m., following a 10 a.m. elimination game between Crestview and St. Mary’s.

The Lancers took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a single by Braden Evans and a home run over the 330-foot mark in left by Ethan Kemler. They made it 3-0 in the second on Collin Overholt’s RBI single.

However, the Jefferson offense came alive in a big way in the top of the third, scoring four times after two were out. Those runs came via a Darnell Simpson single, Hunter Hoehn single, Josh Wiseman two-RBI double, Logan Herron RBI triple, and JT Taviano RBI single.

The ‘Cat lead was short-lived. Lincolnview scored three in the bottom of the third to regain the lead at 6-4, then two more in the fourth to make it 8-4. Jefferson got an unearned run in the fifth, but the Lancers trumped that with two of their own in the bottom half – 10-5, Lincolnview, after five. If there was still any doubt, the Lancers removed it with four more in the sixth.

Delphos used five different pitchers in an effort to stem the tide, but none of them had much luck doing that. Lincolnview used three pitchers, starting with Thad Walker who got the win despite giving up 10 hits and five runs (four earned) in 4 2/3 innings. Evans and Creed Jessee succeeded Walker on the mound. The three Lancer hurlers combined for 10 strikeouts and only two walks.

Not only did the Lancers score in every inning, but all nine Lincolnview starters had at least one hit. The offense was led by Kemler (3 for 5, including a double and homer, two runs scored, five RBI) and Evans (3 for 4, including a double, two runs, one RBI). They had two-hit games from Overholt (including a triple), Braxton Fox , Jessee, and Walker.

All nine Wildcat starters had at least one hit, led by Herron (3 for 4, including a double and a triple, one run, two RBI) and Taviano (2 for 2, one RBI). Braxton Scalf and Wiseman each had a double.
