OTTOVILLE — The Lady Green kept their perfect season intact on Saturday when they defeated Lincolnview 48-34. Nicole Knippen led the way for Ottoville with 17 points in route to their fourth win this year.

The Lady Green maintained the lead through most of the first quarter. A three by Kasey Knippen gave Ottoville a 5-3 advantage early.

Brynlee Hanneman finished the game with 11 points despite picking up three fouls in the first six minutes of action. Kasey Knippen drained another one from behind the arc with :05 remaining on the clock to extend the Big Green’s lead to 15-11 after one.

The Lancers pressed hard in the second quarter and forced Ottovile to take more outside shots, but the Lady Green were spot on from long-distance as Haley Hoersten opened things up with a three and a foul. Her effort extended their lead to 20-13.

A three from Kylee Hoersten from the left wing gave Ottoville a 12 point advantage but Adia Welch matched Hoersten’s shot and cut the lead down to 29-20 at the half.

Lincolnview found themselves still down by eight after the third quarter but refused to go away. Their swarming defense only intensified as the game wore on and battled the Lady Green until the very end.

“I thought Lincolnview played extremely well,” said Ottoville head coach Dave Kleman. “They are very well coached and executed their game plan. Nicole Knippen had a great game for us. As a sophomore, she is still learning what she can do.”

Despite a great effort in the second half, the Lancers couldn’t mount a comeback. Adia Welch led her team with 9 points and senior Lakin Brant had 8.

“We have been talking about playing to our standard and today we felt that we did,” said Lincolnview head coach Dan Williamson. “Our standard is effort and defense and our effort was outstanding today and we defended Ottoville about as well as we could. We forced Ottoville to take the tough shots, they just made them.”

The Lady Green improve to 4-0 while Lincolnview falls to 1-1. Ottoville will be back in action on Tuesday when they take on Fort Jennings. Lincolnview will play New Bremen on Monday.
