CELINA — Coldwater’s golf team opened the 2018 season with a 350 to capture the Mercer County Invitational, held at Mercer County Elks in Celina on Tuesday morning.

The Cavs were paced by a 78 from Connor Muhlenkamp, which earned him tournament medalist honors by five strokes over St. Henry’s Jack Romer (83). Parkway senior Mason Baxter carded an 84 to lead the Panthers and place him third-best overall. Parkway finished a distant sixth in the event with a team score of 454.

Other varsity scores for the Panthers included a pair of 123’s by Andy Metz and Jared Anderson and a 124 by Hunter Gibson. Brayden Bruns (130) and Adam Stephenson (148) also played in the varsity match.

St. Henry placed second as a team, 19 shots behind Coldwater. Marion Local (402), Fort Recovery (409) and Celina (416) rounded out the field.

In the junior varsity event, St. Henry’s 415 captured the title. Parkway was fourth in the five-team field with a 497 team score.
