CONVOY – Crestview and St. Marys battled all game but three runs in the top of the seventh pushed the Knights past the Roughriders 10-7 Saturday in the ACME sectional tournament.

Crestview got out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Brant Richardson had an RBI double that scored Kaden Short to give the Knights the first run of the game. Brody Brecht drove in Richardson with a single and Jaylen Jefferson knocked in Griffin Painter as Crestview surged past the Roughriders.

St. Marys cut into the Knights lead in the bottom half of the inning. Carson Fischbach was alert on the base path and took home after a poor throw to second by catcher Korbin Hartman. They rallied for three more runs in the second as the Roughriders took a 4-3 lead.

Brecht delivered a triple in the top of the third inning to tie the game at 4-4. His blast scored Painter as the momentum began to shift. Trevor Sheets knocked in Brecht with a single as Crestview regained the lead once again.

The Roughriders plated a run in the fourth and the Knights responded with a run in the fifth to maintain their lead.

Crestview extended their advantage in the top of the sixth when Hartman drove in Richardson to make it 7-5, but St. Marys scored two in the bottom of the inning to knot it up at seven a piece.

The Knights led off the seventh with three straight hits before Riley Saylor hit a triple that scored Logan Gerardot and Kaden Short. Richardson hit a sacrifice fly that brought home Saylor as Crestview held a three-run lead entering the bottom of the seventh.

Painter retired the inning with little difficulty. Crestview eliminated St. Marys from the tournament with a 10-7 victory.

“We had some kids in the bottom of our lineup grow up today,” said Crestview head coach Jeff Helm. “The kids made contact in key situations for us and we had a solid outing. We kept competing and tried to put pressure on them defensively. Painter had good command and was able to get an out when he needed it.”
