COLUMBUS GROVE — Columbus Grove continued to dominate every opponent with a convincing 70-45 win over Lincolnview Friday night. The Bulldogs are now 9-0 overall and 3-0 in the NWC. The Lancers are 5-5 and 1-1.

For Grove on the offensive end, it was Mr. Outside (junior Tayt Birnesser, 28 points, 9 of 16 field goal shooting, seven threes) and Mr. Inside (junior Blake Reynolds, 24 points, 12 of 15 from the field) leading the way. The Dogs had a whopping 30 field goals and got those on only 54 attempts — 56 percent.

The Bulldog defense forced 13 first-half Lancer turnovers while holding the visitors to 15 points. Lincolnview remedied that with an impressive 22-point third quarter (Grove also scored 22) and had only three second-half miscues, but it was too late. The Lancers ended up with a 19-of-49 (39 percent) performance from the field.

Columbus Grove had a 26-24 rebounding edge and had only seven turnovers to Lincolnview’s 16. Fouls and free throws were rare — the Bulldogs were 3 for 6 from the line, the Lancers 2 for 5.

It was competitive early, but the hosts ended the first quarter with a 7-0 run to break a 7-7 tie and lead 14-7 after eight minutes. Birnesser had eight of those points on two 3-pointers and two free throws.

Grove started the second quarter with a 19-4 run to lead 33-11 with 2:49 on the clock. It was 33-15 at the half. Birnesser already had 15 points, including four treys, after those 16 minutes

The third quarter was a competitive action-packed 22-22 eight minutes. Lancer junior Collin Overholt had 11 of those points, including two 3-pointers. Birnesser and Reynolds had eight points apiece in the third period, after which the Bulldogs held on to a 55-37 lead.

Columbus Grove started the fourth quarter with a 13-3 run, which included a breakaway dunk by junior Gabe Clement — 68-40, Bulldogs, with 4:13 left. Both coaches substituted liberally at that point.

Birnesser and Reynolds got double-digit scoring support from Clement with 10. Juniors scored 66 of Grove’s 70 points.

Lincolnview’s scoring was led by Overholt with 19 and junior Jake Bowersock with eight.
