VAN WERT — Van Wert kept it close, but Memorial pulled away late in a 3-1 victory on Wednesday. The game was tied at one with Memorial batting in the top of the sixth when Tobin singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs.

The pitching was strong on both sides. Memorial pitchers struck out three, while Van Wert sat down seven.

Memorial fired up the offense in the first inning. Sweigart drove in one when he singled.

The Cougars evened things up at one in the bottom of the first inning when Turner Witten singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run.

Lininger earned the victory on the pitcher’s mound for Memorial. He went four innings, allowing zero runs on one hit, striking out two and walking one.

Keaton Brown took the loss for Van Wert. He went seven innings, allowing three runs on five hits, striking out seven and walking one.

Spencer started the game for Memorial. He surrendered one run on three hits over three innings, striking out one

Levi Eddins, Witten, Logan Collins, and Jacob Place each managed one hit to lead Van Wert Van Wert Acme Varsity.

Trogdlon went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Memorial in hits.
