VAN WERT — The Van Wert swim team recently held their end of the season awards banquet.

Head Coach Megan Hurless, along with assistant coach Keith Rydell, honored Jamie Burenga, Octavius Tucker and Allie Etter as the Cougars three seniors.

Overall, the Van Wert boys completed the season with 12 wins and three losses, while the girls earned nine wins and six losses. At the Sectional meet, 94 percent of Van Wert swimmers achieved personal best times in their respective events.

The 200-free relay, boys 200-medley relay, boys 400-free relay, girls 400-free relay, Jamie Burenga (100 yard backstroke), Jayden Welker (100 yard Butterfly) and Ian Rex (100 yard backstroke and 200 yard freestyle) all advanced to the District meet.

Out of 10 total swimmers, eight swimmers maintained a 3.0 grade point average during the season and received Scholar Athlete awards. Those swimmers were Jamie Burenga, Allie Etter, Ian Rex, Gage Wannemacher, Travis Francis, Tyra McClain, Gracie Mull and Jayden Welker.

Varsity letters were also presented to Jamie Burenga, Allie Etter, Octavius Tucker, Ian Rex, Gage Wannemacher, Travis Francis, Tyra McClain, Gracie Mull and Jayden Welker.

To culminate their season, the Cougar swim team hosted a swim-a-thon, raising $5125.00 that will be given to the Van Wert Cougar Athletic Boosters. The team would like to thank the generous contributors that supported their season.
