HAVILAND — Wayne Trace welcomed GMC conference rival Hicksville for a hard fought match to cap of the regular season. The Lady Raiders walked away with the home victory 25-19, 26-24, 19-25, 25-21.

The Lady Raiders had to fight for every inch in the finale of the GMC schedule, as Wayne Trace found themselves digging out of improbable holes all night.

In the first set the raiders and Aces fought tooth and nail from the on-set as after 25 points the Raiders held a slight 13-12 lead. Led by Alli Hefner kills and Miriam Sinn serving the Lady Raiders started to push away scoring six of the next seven points, leading 19-13 which fueled their route to a 25-19 victory.

The next set had the most improbable of situations, as the Lady Raiders dug themselves out of the huge whole to come back and win to take a 2-0 lead.

The start of the set mirrored the first, as the two teams traded blows till everything was knotted at 13-13. This was when the Aces took the liberty of going on a 10-4 run t o be just two points away from a game two win. Wayne Trace kicked in another throttle as they rallied off seven eight straight points to take the lead at 24-23. The Raiders eventually won the set 26-24.

The see-saw action continued as Hicksville jumped out to a 8-2 lead just to give it up and let Wayne Trace tie up and take the lead. The Aces remained composure to win a hard fought set 25-19, including scoring 10 of the last 14 points.

Wayne Trace won the final match of the year as they fought off Hicksville in the final set winning 25-21.

The Raiders travel to Eastwood on Wednesday for their match of the playoffs. If they win they will play Lincolnview next Saturday at 11 am.
