DEFIANCE — Host Defiance and Wayne Trace each picked up victories in the winner’s bracket Friday night in ACME district baseball action at the home of the Bulldogs.

With the victories, the Bulldogs and Raiders will meet on Sunday in the winner’s bracket championship at 7:15 p.m.

Wayne Trace opened the evening with a 7-3 victory over Paulding County and Green Meadows Conference rival Antwerp before Defiance outlasted Paulding in a 3-2 win.

The opener saw the Raiders break the game open with a 7-run fourth inning to take control of the contest.

Drew Forrer had two singles and two runs batted in to lead the Raider offense while Haydn Gillett added a 2-run double. Noah Reel also helped to get the Wayne Trace rally started by recording a run-scoring sacrifice fly that put the Raiders in front 2-0 at the time.

Braden Zuber posted the victory for the Raiders, throwing six innings and limiting Antwerp to four hits, two walks and an unearned while striking out one.

Antwerp scored once in the sixth before adding two runs in the seventh to set the final margin at 7-3.

Dylan Hines led the way for the Archers with a pair of singles. Jacob Savina, Blake Schuette and Cole Seslar all added singles for Antwerp.

Braden Zuber chipped in a run-scoring single for the Raiders with Reid Miller and Cameron Monroe getting singles. Caleb Yenser had a pair of singles as well for Wayne Trace.

Schuette took the loss for the Archers, pitching four innings and allowing seven hits and seven walks while striking out four Wayne Trace hitters.

The nightcap saw Defiance hold on for a 3-2 victory over Paulding, taking advantage of three unearned runs in the win.

The Bulldogs scored first, plating one run in the first before scoring twice in the third to take a 3-0 advantage.

Paulding made things interesting, getting a pair of runs in the top of the fourth to close within 3-2 but that would be the end of the game’s scoring.

Brandon Shafer got the win for Defiance, tossing the complete game while giving up three hits, two earned runs and three walks and striking out three.

Kolson Egnor took the loss for the Panthers, throwing six innings and allowing five hits, three runs (all unearned) and three walks. Egnor also struck out three Defiance batters.

Jaret Miller led the Paulding offense with a single and a triple and Hunter Kauser added a triple. Miller and Evan Edwards each had a run batted in for the Panthers while Kauser and Miller scored the Paulding runs.

Addison Smith had a pair of singles for Defiance with Shafer, Ethan Decker and Aaron Cruz chipping in singles.
